| I am a delta blues fan since 1958, when I was 12 yo. Listening to Swiss Radio Jazz I heard a wonderful take on Madison Blues, could not identify the musiscians.I found out that it was the wonderful lady, Etta Baker and Wale Liniger!! Absolutely breathtaking. Ms Baker was a national treasure and a real lady! Walt has released a record, Sidemeat, buy it and listen. And thanks a LOT Walt for recording with wonderful but rarely heard musicians. " You are in the South man. You do what the man says!" I have heard exactly that from my very dear friend Ted in Natchez 1978. Keep the music alive and Hill Country Blues is great, as good as the Delta Blues!! |

| I lead a study group called, "Smilin' With the Blues" where senior citizens get a chance to learn about Piedmont, Delta, Country & City blues distinctions, along with our 'exporting' the blues and 'importing' the blues. You were one of the artists featured today in class and they all LOVED your style, voice and writing ("Picked No Cotten"). I just want to pass along how wonderful it was to see people 'discover' someone they were not previously familiar with and share their joy at the experience. Thank you for the wonderful music you've made over the years. (btw, the day i met you on Etta Baker's front porch many years ago was one of the highlights in my life). All the best to you. | |

| Professor, I just wanted to take an opportunity to thank you for a great class. I don't write too many emails like this, mainly from fear of any misunderstanding of intentions with grades, student/teacher boundaries, etc. In this case however, that seems pretty unlikely. I was struck by when you mentioned that you used to get a lot more students coming by to hang out or jam, and I was wondering if the cause was perhaps rooted in the modern mindset of overblown political correctness and just plain fear. Just my own musings on the subject. In any case, I feel like that is a missed opportunity for many, and it's a shame. I found it interesting that in the standarized evaluations that I have taken in all my classes, there is the blanket question, "What have you learned in this class?" followed by a tiny box in which to write your answer. I get a kick out of that everytime I see it. At any rate, what I learned in your class would not fit in any such box. A surprising turn of events is how much my guitar playing has improved over the semester, coupled with a slightly better understanding of music theory. I've found that I feel really at home behind a guitar with a harp and rack. I'm not exactly sure, but I think I feel like I can hide a little bit behind all that, like I'm wearing a disguise and can therefore express myself a little more freely. It's an exciting new world to explore with lots of ins and outs and ups and downs. And again I say: Thank you. Anyway, I hope your journeys here and abroad are safe, exciting, and fulfilling. I hope that you continue to spread your (at times) challenging wisdom, peppered with your trademark exuberant fun and weirdness to the next unsuspecting customer.. Godspeed, David DeWeese |

| Hallo all Ihr Blues-Harper War ein gutes Erlebnis zusammen mit Euch: das vermeindlich so schwierige hab ich zusammen mit Euch ganz locker erlebt. Merci für das Ertragen meiner Falschtöne - ich musste sie so spielen, denn für mich waren sie ja soo stimmig (*Zwinker). Ein ganz spezieller Dank an Wale - ich denke "Dein gelebter Blues" ist bei uns bzw. ganz sicher bei mir voll angekommen. Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ich in einem Tag a) so viel zum Spielen komme und b) so viel Wissen und Technik mitbekommen bzw. aufnehmen könnte und c) noch alles schriftlich dokumentiert und musikalisch hinterlegt "nachgeliefert" bekomme...echt cool. Habe es nicht lassen können, in alle "Files" reinzuschauen und reinzuhören..und siehe da: bei allem konnte ich sagen "KENN ICH JA - HABE ICH JA AUCH SCHON GESPIELT"! Wenn ich ehrlich bin, muss ich sagen, dass ich zum Schluss des Kurses nicht mehr ganz alles auf die Reihe gebracht habe bzw. als wir dann so drauflos spielen konnten, konnte ich schon einiges wieder nicht mehr spielen. Hatte schon etwas resigniert im Sinn "alter Mann schnallt's halt nicht mehr, Shit! Aber die Files von Wale retten mich jetzt im Nachhinein: ich hab alles wieder präsent, brings sogar wieder gut auf die Reihe bzw. einen guten Grove aus meiner Mundharmonika heraus. Fägt! Jetzt werde ich in aller Ruhe und im Rhythmus eines alt-jungen Mannes im "Gärtli bei Sonnenuntergang mit einem Gläschen Wein" so richtig anfangen zu bluesen a) so und so lange wie es für mich stimmt b) bis die Kühe auf der Nachbarsweide vor lauter Bluesen das Gras fressen vergessen und .....ich ihr wisst ja bzw. ich hab da so Bild vor Augen: solange man eine Mundharmonika zwischen den Zähnen hat, kann man glaub gar nicht ins Gras beissen, oder?
